Training floor staff in one shift

If the script takes longer than a shift briefing, enrolment will stall in week two. What to cut.

Every loyalty launch is delivered by people who have ten seconds at the till and a queue behind them. The programme is only as good as that sentence they say.

Teams do not fail to enrol members because they disagree with the strategy. They fail because the ask is too long, the till flow is awkward, or nobody told them what is in it for the guest.

One sentence, one tap

The script should be a single line the server can say while handing over the card machine, and enrolment should be one action at the till — a phone number, a QR scan, nothing more.

If the flow needs a second screen or an explanation of tiers, it will be skipped on the busy shifts, which are exactly the shifts you wanted.

What to cut from the briefing
01
The tier structure
Guests will discover it in the app. Staff need the benefit sentence, not the ladder.
02
The strategy slide
Why the board approved it is not useful at the till.
03
Edge cases
Refunds and disputes go to the manager. Do not spend floor time on them.

Give the floor a reason of their own

Enrolment targets work far better with a small, visible team incentive attached — per shift or per site, not per individual, so the whole floor pulls together.

If the script takes longer than handing over the card machine, it will not survive a busy Friday.

Keep it running for the first eight weeks, then let the habit carry it.

Watch week two, not week one

Week one always looks good; everyone is trying. The honest signal is week two, when the novelty is gone and the queue is back. If enrolment halves, the flow is too heavy.

Fix it at the till, not in another training session.
